KARL is built for union members, not employers. This page explains, in plain language, what KARL keeps, what it never does, and the control you have over your own information.
Your union operates KARL for its members. KARL Stewardship maintains the software and serves it to your union. Each union runs its own isolated instance — your data is never mixed with another union's, and no other union can see it.
Opening KARL from a QR code or link your union gives you creates an anonymous session. No sign-up, no name, no email, no password. KARL does not ask for, and does not store, your identity.
KARL works for your union, full stop. Your questions and your usage are never shared with management. KARL has no employer dashboards, no productivity scoring, and no surveillance or anti-organizing features — by design and by policy.
By default, KARL keeps only anonymized operational information needed to keep the service working and to fix problems. Your conversations with KARL are not stored by default.
If your union chooses to enable additional, optional analytics to improve the experience, that data is anonymized — and you can turn it off for yourself at any time.
Conversations are not retained by default. Limited technical and session information is kept only as long as needed to run the service securely, then purged on a regular schedule.
Your data lives in your union's isolated store, protected by row-level access controls so that only you and your union's authorized administrators can reach it.
We will update this page as KARL evolves. The version and date at the top always reflect the current policy. For the underlying governance and technical detail, see the project's open-source repository.
